Annette Street Public School
16 May 2024“We have learned so much from this experience and I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity.
Our students worked so hard keeping our plants safe from squirrels, racoons, frost, harsh winter, road salt, dogs and passer by in our urban centre. We spent most of the late fall sprinkling coffee grounds on the garden in an effort to keep squirrels away. We made signs reminding people to allow our plants space to grow, and added fencing in early spring.
The most significant connection we made to the Netherlands and bulbs took place on November 11th. Our Remembrance Day. We wrote about the strong connection Canada has to the Netherlands (my own in laws being post war Dutch Immigrants). We shared the story of the ongoing generous donations of flower bulbs to the Capital of Canada,, Ottawa, thanking Canada for its contribution to the war effort in the Netherlands and supporting the Royal family during the war. Our class bravely shared this information during a school assembly, also sharing photos of our planting.
Thank you for this magical opportunity that has given my students so much.”
