Primary schools can now start registering to receive a free flower bulb kit from Bulbs4Kids. Bulbs4Kids is an international campaign meant to acquaint children in primary schools with the world of nature by means of hands-on activities that are also fun. There are 2,100 kits available, 150 of which are for Canadese primary schools.
Green is healthy
More and more studies confirm the positive effects that experiencing the natural world has on health. Playing in a natural environment and having hands-on experiences with plants contributes to the healthy balanced development of children. It makes children smarter, fitter and more creative. The only problem, however, is that urbanisation has made the distance between people and the natural environment greater than ever before. For Bulbs4Kids, this is the reason to offer 2,100 free Bulbs4Kids kits to primary schools in England, The Netherlands, Germany, Canada, France and Sweden, so that children can discover flower bulbs together with their classmates.
How does it work?
A Bulbs4Kids flower bulb kit acquaints the class with flower bulbs. The kit contains all the educational ingredients to let children have first-hand experience with how flower bulbs grow and produce flowers. The kit includes various kinds of flower bulbs, trowels, plant labels, workbooks for pupils, and a teacher’s guide. The Bulbs4Kids programme also includes an exciting photo and video contest. This makes planting the flower bulbs even more fun! The grand prize is the Golden Flower Bulb for the winning class. Watch the video here.
Register
Participating in Bulbs4Kids is very easy. Primary teachers can register their class to receive a free flower bulb kit at bulbs4kids.com. You will then get a confirmation of this and will receive their Bulbs4Kids flower bulb kit in the autumn when the planting season begins. You should be aware that participation involves certain conditions:
- the flower bulb kits are suitable for children ages 6-12 (grades 1 through 6),
- the flower bulb kits are distributed only to primary schools in England,
- only one kit is given to each primary school, and the supply of flower bulb kits is limited (first come, first served).
